Krabi Massage and Spa Experiences
Krabi is a great destination for a spamini-break. Most big resorts offer spas with clean and comfy beds, exotic spa and oil products as well as a great selection of treatments such as face cleansing, body scrubs, wax treatment and more. Thai and foot massage are among the top recommendations for first timers who haven’t tried any massage before.
Traditional Thai massage is not like a walk in the park and doesn’t come easily. Themasseuses will be pushing, pulling stretching and pressuring your body parts basically from head to toe (well, not quite).
And with some extra money, you can try Thai massage with hot herbal balls and see for yourself if it really does soothe sore muscles as well as enhancing blood circulation as most people claim. Expect to feel a little discomfort during the session, but you’ll feel very relaxed afterward. Just remember, ‘no pain, no gain’.
As for foot massage, it is quite easily to become addicted to, especially when it’s done right. Before themasseuses work on your feet, they will sit you in an incredibly comfortable big armchair, then soak your feet in warm water or clean them by using a warm towel. They will apply a firm and steady pressure on the heels, saddle and toes. Many people fall asleep right then…
Beach Massage in Krabi
Beach massage can be found at the Krabi’s major beach, Ao Nang, at its southern end. There are about 30 small huts with massage beds all are sharing the same very simple setup and laid-back atmosphere meaning you can go straight to the massage after a long swim or jog on the beach. Many times the ladies who operate the joints will come to you with options on offer. Prices are similar; Thai massage costs about 300 baht per hour and foot massage is 350 baht while oil massage is a little bit higher.
Good to know
At any spa centre or massage shop, you’ll first be asked to change into a more comfortable outfit that looks very much like pajamas.
A massage session usually lasts from one to two hours but spa treatments can last as long as you like. For example, some programs can easily last the whole day if you have the time and money to spend.
If you have any kind of health issue/history such as back problems and such, it’s best to advise the therapist in advance, so that they can avoid working on the sensitive area.
It’s common to leave a tip of at least 50 – 100 baht for your therapist and masseuse.
There are many small massage shops in Krabi City and the Ao Nang area and most feature basic treatment rooms and offer standard Thai, foot and oil massage. Prices are pretty much the same, starting from about 200 - 300 baht per hour for a standard Thai massage. Alternatively, try the following venues:
