Krabi Markets

Where to find Markets in Krabi

If you like Thai cuisine, you should check out some of the many local markets nearby your Krabi accommodation. It’s a lot of fun to see all the herbs and ingredients used for spicy tom yam soup or the lovely green curry you had the other night.

On top of that, Krabi Town is home to two permanent markets; Maharaj and City markets. The first one is the most important and the busiest wet market in town; it was recently renovated, making it a pleasant place to visit. Maharaj’s the source for most hotels, resorts and restaurants in Krabi area.

Maharaj Market

What do you look for in a Thai market? Probably the unique sights, sounds and smells; the minute you walk in, you will know that Maharaj is the kind of Asian market people described to you when traveling through this part of the world. It’s full of exotic goods both dry and fresh; whether rice, spices, chilli paste, colourful fruit and vegetables, tropical fish, home-wares, clothes and more.

Maharaj is also known as the ‘Morning Market’ and as the name suggested it’s a lively and active place, even before sunrise. It starts off as a wholesale market as early as 04:00 when the aisles are packed with carts and shoppers. After about 09:00, it’ll quiet down a little bit and then finally wind down around noon. Within the compound, there are also many food stands selling ready-to-eat meals at very minimal prices. Takeaway service is also available.

Opening Hours: Daily from 04.00 - 12.00.
Best time to visit: 07:00 - 08:00
Location: City Centre

Downtown Krabi Fresh Market (Talad Sod)

Downtown Krabi Fresh Market is opened daily from 16:00 – 21:00 on a 2,400sqm place located Soi 10 off Maharaj Road in the heart of Krabi Town. It is a smaller market than Maharaj. It’s a typical wet market with a lot of Thai street food, flowers, fruit and some knick-knacks such as cheap plastic toys, women's clothing and fashion accessories.

This place is very popular and quite interesting to look around even though you don’t buy anything; you can sample here a great choice of local street food favourites such as kanom jeen (fresh rice noodles served with curry sauce), chicken satay and seasonal local fruits (mango, pineapple, durian, and more).

Opening Hours: Daily, from 16:00 – 21:00
