Ao Nam Mao - Krabi

Peaceful Area between Ao Nang and Krabi Town

Ao Nam Mao is a hardly developed area located between Railay and Krabi Town. In peak season, it offers a serene atmosphere far from crowds and hosts enough attractions and facilities to please any vacationers. Locally important due to its pier (for fishing and transfers), it features a long (about 1,400m) dark sandy beach plus three smaller coves, including Susan Hoi also known as Krabi Shell Cemetery.

The eastern and northern sides of Ao Nam Mao are covered with mangrove forests, which explains the colours of the sand and of the waters (greenish) lapping the shore. It gives the opportunity to take cool trips by sea kayak through this pristine and lush environment, home to a great number of wild animal species (crab-eating macaques, aigrettes, mudskippers, and more). Ao Nam Mao Pier is the closest port of embarkation to Railay East, that can be reached in about 10 minutes by long-tail boat.

Regarding attractions other than the Shell Cemetery, Ao Nam Mao hosts the Krabi Coastal Fisheries Research and Development Centre and Krabi Fun Park. The former is a vast complex that permits visitors to discover aquaculture and the breeding of endangered species of fish and coral while the latter allows its visitors to discover the rainforest from the canopy through a circuit of zip-lines. Other cool activities such as yoga, meditation, horse riding, and Thai cooking classes can also be found at Ao Nam Mao.

On the accommodation side, Ao Nam Mao hosts a good choice of hotels at every range of rates, from budget – Amazon Bungalow - to mid-range – N.S. Mountain Beach Resort - to luxury – Pimann Buri Luxury Pool Villas - just to name a few. The area counts enough convenience store, souvenirs shops, and other boutiques to make sure that you find almost all that you could need, and Ao Nam Mao Fresh Market (held on Wednesdays and Sundays from 15:00 to 19:00) is the perfect place to mingle with the locals and discover new savours.
