Railay is the ultimate getaway in a lot of ways: its remote location gives it a great secluded touch, and its stunning natural beauty brings a timeless feeling. Railay nightlife somehow seems stuck in the ‘70s as most the beachside venues share a bohemian décor and laid-back atmosphere. Smoky reggae bars, reclaimed materials and drift wood venues, open-air terraces overlooking the sea and the mangrove forest compose most of Railay’s nightlife scene.
Our top 5 night spots in Railay’s list features the most frequented venues and the best places at which everyone can enjoy in such a chill-out destination. Put on your folksy hippie clothing, headbands and beads necklaces, and then follow us on Railay’s footpaths to discover its magical nightlife.

So named because this used to indeed be the last bar on this strip (the cement footpath was extended two kilometres further north in 2013), the Lucky Restaurant & Last Bar has an all day dining menu and goes until late, featuring live music and Muay Thai demonstration in high season. The venue also hosts a tattoo studio (So Good Tattoo). Here is the place to go for full moon parties on Railay East and to its credit the restaurant is kids-friendly, but at night the music is turned up high and the UV lights are switched on to create the closest thing to a rave as you will find on Railay. There is a care-free, backpacker vibe at the Last Bar that ensures a good party.
The open-air terrace overlooking mangroves is a perfect place to relax, and its menu features a great choice of Thai, vegetarian and western favourites at affordable rates. Perhaps the best thing about the Lucky Last Bar, besides its constant entertainment, is the price of its drinks (happy hour from 15:00 – 21:00: all cocktails and gin/rum/vodka + mix at 100 baht) – kept low to ensure a happy and busy house. Located at the back of Railay Walking Street, on the trail that leads to Railay Beach East, Bamboo Bar is a simple venue made of wood, bamboo and thatch. The bar is especially famous for the kindness and mixology skills of its owner, Khun Ae, who’s an expert in preparing potent and delicious cocktails. Proudly boasting the Reggae colours throughout, Bamboo Bar is the perfect joint to chill out in. It also hosts a bamboo tattoo studio, at which works an extremely talented artist, and Thai Boxing ring offering thrilling shows. Live music is as well regularly played at Bamboo Bar by talented local bands. Read More...

Tew Lay Bar is a cool venue located off the beaten track on Railay Beach East. To get there, you need to follow the seaside trail that continues after The Last Bar (which obviously should be renamed) for about 350m. Situated on a small cape, this bar-restaurant-cooking school has the vintage vibe of the first bars that settled in Railay in the eighties. Made of bamboo and thatch, you can peacefully enjoy the view to Railay East Bay and its mangrove forest, while sipping a cocktail or a cold beer. The atmosphere at Tew Lay Bar is really peaceful, gently rocked by Reggae music.
- Opening Hours: 11:00 – 02:00
- Location: On Railay Beach East, a few hundred metres after The Last Bar
Joy Beach Bar is a long-established watering hole in Railay East. The bar (and now restaurant) went through a major refurbishing in 2012, with the addition of a second storey. Entirely made of wood and thatched-roof, the rickety construction is totally open-sided and overlooks Railay East mangrove. It can host up to sixty punters seated on Thai triangle pillows and fold-out mattresses around low bamboo tables: lie back, chill out and feel the calming ocean breeze!
Many claim that Joy Beach Bar does the ‘best cocktails in Thailand’ – the Mojito is a must-try. All hype aside, Joy’s is actually one of the best bars on the peninsula and seems to cover all the bases with ease. Its pizzas also earned an excellent reputation and are considered the best in Railay. With its stunning beachfront location, relaxed atmosphere, chill-out music, Wi-Fi access, great cocktails, and friendly staff, Joy Beach Bar is a highly recommended place for night owls in Railay.

Flame Tree Restaurant is an unpretentious and laid-back venue flanking the two sides to the entrance of the Walking Street in the central part of Railay West just where the long-tail boats moor. It is a classic southern Thai place made of drift wood, bamboo, steel pole and corrugated iron roof which also hosts a fruit shake/smoothie booth and a coffee shop. Flame Tree is a popular sundowner spot and its drink-list counts no less than 57 cocktails (from 180 baht for a Casablanca to 295 baht for a Coco Loco).
Serving Breakfast, lunch and dinner, it seems that Flame Tree is busy all day long. Its menu features great choices of western and Thai delicacies at prices which might seem a bit steep at first sight (hamburger at 195 baht, panang curry at 225 baht, fried rice at 150 baht) but which are in accordance with most other eateries in Railay, due to the seclusion of the place. At night, it is a cool joint at which take a drink (or several) in good company.
