Located in Ao Nang Walking Street, a few steps away from the beach road, Boogie Bar is a seventies-style bar curiously separated by the walking street’s lane. The largest side of the bar features tables, chairs, a pool table, and the bar counter, while the smaller side on the other side of the lane hosts just a few tables and the stage on which performs a talented cover band. All the classic tunes of pop-rock are executed with brio by the live band which is the real centre of attraction in this quaint bar. The drink list hosts all the usual suspects from beer to cocktail and from soft drink to spirit. Note that prices are pretty steep.
- Opening Hours: 15:00 – 02:00
- Location: in Ao Nang Walking Street, on the beach road side
Roots Rock Reggae Bar is a mid-sized open-air bar located on the main road to Krabi Town in Ao Nang’s southern part, diagonally opposite Mac Donald’s, some 50m after Bombay Palace Indian Restaurant when coming from the beach. The place is fast becoming one of the most frequented and lively venues after sunset, offering a great mix of affordable drinks (small bottle of beer at 90 baht and cocktails at 150 baht), excellent live music (the Thai band performing here has a great singer), friendly staff, and fire shows at 20:30 (right on the pavement in front of the bar).
- Opening Hours: 17:00 – 02:00
- Location: 50m after Bombay Palace on Ao Nang Road (4023)

So named because this used to indeed be the last bar on this strip (the cement footpath was extended two kilometres further north in 2013), the Lucky Last Bar has an all day dining menu and goes until late, featuring live music and Muay Thai demonstration in high season. The venue also hosts a tattoo studio (So Good Tattoo). Here is the place to go for full moon parties on Railay East and to its credit the restaurant is kids-friendly, but at night the music is turned up high and the UV lights are switched on to create the closest thing to a rave as you will find on Railay. Ao Nang’s nightlife epicentre, Center Point has been refurbished and is now a three-storey entertainment complex with plenty of bars to choose from, as well as a ladyboy cabaret named Blue Dragon. Little Long-Horn Saloon is a very popular bar and restaurant, Rocky Bar has pretty good live music, while Airplane and The Cave Bar have eye-catching designs, but not as eye-catching as the hostesses inside. Tew Lay Bar is a cool venue located off the beaten track on Railay Beach East. To get there, you need to follow the seaside trail that continues after The Last Bar (which obviously should be renamed) for about 350m. Situated on a small cape, this bar-restaurant-cooking school has the vintage vibe of the first bars that settled in Railay in the eighties. Made of bamboo and thatch, you can peacefully enjoy the view to Railay East Bay and its mangrove forest, while sipping a cocktail or a cold beer. The atmosphere at Tew Lay Bar is really peaceful, gently rocked by Reggae music.
- Opening Hours: 11:00 – 02:00
- Location: Railay Beach East
Soi RCA Entertainment is one of the two main nightlife spots in Ao Nang (the other is Ao Nang Center Point). It is not clear what RCA stands for; in Bangkok, RCA - Royal City Avenue – is the epicenter of the capital’s clubbing scene; the meaning must be the same in Ao Nang, nevertheless the place’s status could give it another meaning such as ‘Radar Controlled Approach’ as any single man entering Soi RCA is literally scrutinized from head to toe by the bar girls (or wannabe girls) posted in front of each of the 12 joints available in the 100m-long street. Sunset Bar is the kind of the establishments that made southern Thailand’s reputation for coolness and a worry-free atmosphere. Settled right on Klong Muang Beach, between Nakamanda Resort and The Pelican Residence, this unpretentious venue may not have cost a lot to build – it is made of driftwood, bamboo and thatch, and other recycled materials – yet offers its punters exactly what they are looking for: an affordable local venue at which they can unwind while watching the sun disappears behind the horizon on the Andaman Sea. Located on Chao Fah Alley, a few hundred metres from Chao Fah Pier on Krabi Riverside, Fu Bar is a cool joint that raises high the colours of the Reggae Flag. The venue is rather small, but features a small courtyard surrounded by vegetation, which offers a pleasant environment to enjoy a cold one with friends. Hosting a pool table, board games and a good collection of books in many languages, you can spend cool evenings here being gently rocked by the offbeat Reggae music, often played live by the local musicians who frequent the establishment.
