Koh Lanta's Northwest Coast Nightlife

Where to Go at Night on Koh Lanta's Northwest Coast

The northwest coast has the highest concentration of bars, so whether you prefer, beach, traditional Thai, western, sports or even karaoke bars, they can all be found here. Both Klong Dao and Phrae Ae (Long Beach) have the most popular bars on the island but do not expect them to be heaving every night.

Most bars have a day of the week set aside as ‘Party Night’ and so you can find a vast difference in them from day to day. This means there are plenty of bars offering a quiet place to chill but if you are looking for a more hectic night, talk to the locals they will surely know where the party is at!

Cheeky Monkey

If you fancy starting your night early, then Cheeky is the place to start. Originally a day bar, it overlooks the main west coast road, which is the reason that became so popular, it was simply too tempting! It has now been transformed and redesigned into a day and night bar. This is primarily a bottled beer bar, but they do offer cocktails and you are sure to find good company and good music.

  • Opening Hours: Daily 12:00 till late
  • Location: On the left of the main road in Klong Dao opposite Southern Lanta Resort

Funky Monkey

Built in 2010, this is the newest and biggest nightspot on the island, with a very large bar, huge amount of space and two pool tables which are occasionally free but very popular. They have an array of TVs showing a wide range of sports (mainly wrestling). The music can vary anywhere between the latest western tracks, to sometimes a rather random mix of old western or Thai music, so you have been warned!

  • Opening Hours: Daily 14:00 till late
  • Location: Main Road on the right just before you enter Phra Ae Village

Irish Embassy

No matter where you go in the world, there is always an Irish bar, and Koh Lanta is no exception. This bar is definitely worth a visit because, despite its small size, their parties are huge and often come with a free BBQ. Its business is mainly derived from dive instructors and their guests using it as a place to celebrate birthdays, course completions etc. Expect to dance to cheesy but fun music till the early hours of the morning with draft beer, bottled ciders and maybe even some of the black and cream stuff! Big football matches and sports fixtures are often shown on their TV screens.

  • Opening Hours: Daily 12:00 till very late
  • Location: Main Road on the right as you head south just before Phra Ae Village

Klapa Klum Beach Bar

A Funky Thai beach bar, built from bamboo and driftwood with lights made from spent lighters thrown away by travellers. Klapa Klum has great deckchairs to sit in and watch the sun go down whilst sipping a beer or one of their cocktails. They are known for their parties, so keep an eye out for posters, as the party is usually pumping till late. Their tom yam mojitos are a definite must if you like spicy!

  • Opening Hours: Daily 10:00 till you leave!
  • Location: About 300m on the right, past the main road in Long Beach (heading South), there is a sandy road clearly signposted from the road

Korner Bar

For some reason this name is popular in Koh Lanta, but this particular Korner bar is a pretty little beach bar entirely made out of bamboo and driftwood and on most Saturday nights it’s the only place to be. Run by a friendly group of Rasta Thais, you will find a warm welcome any day of the week and the view along Long Beach is spectacular. Despite being a tiny bar, expect the party night to be heaving, and the quality of the DJs is pretty good too.

  • Opening Hours: Daily 12:00 till late
  • Location: The last bar on Phra Ae Beach (going south), usually signposted from the main road (Mook Lanta Resort and Lanta Marina Resort Road)

Ozone

This is one of the oldest beach clubs on the island and is infamous for its ‘Thursday nights.’ They actually have two bars; one open all day and closer to the beach which is ideal for people watching and one much larger a little further back which is only open at night. They have excellent DJs and their parties often spill out onto the surrounding beach.

  • Opening Hours: Daily 10:00 till late
  • Location: Take the turning just before Lanta Gym. Ozone can be found on the right on the beach

Shooters

Serious about your pool? This is where to go. Shooters only has one American-style table but it is free. Beware of the ladyboys, they really do know how to play, so expect to lose! This bar is generally quiet until the other bars start to throw out and while you will not find a kicking party, you can drink till the early hours of the morning. With Happy Hour daily from 17:00 – 20:00 and pool competitions on Saturday nights.

  • Opening Hours: 17:00 till very late
  • Location: Main Road on the right as you head south just before Phra Ae Village; about four doors down from The Irish Embassy

The Pub

Do not be fooled by the name; this is a Thai bar and only really gets started when all the other bars are shutting. Usually there is an entrance fee and this bar has more of a club. Do expect drinks to be more expensive than in other places and, if you wish, hostesses may join you. You will be expected to buy them a cocktail but they are fun and will dance the night away with you!

  • Opening Hours: Daily 22:00 till very late
  • Location: Just past Cheeky Monkey on the main road of Klong Dao Beach

Ting Tong

A bar full of characters! Do not expect fast service, this is most definitely a chill-out bar but does have a pool table if you are feeling energetic. The Thai staff are fun and often play live English and Thai music late into the night. This is not a bar where you will be dancing the night away but you may just fall asleep in the bar hammocks!

  • Opening Hours: Daily 10:00 till late
  • Location: At the end of Klong Kong (South) follow the road to Klong Khong Bay Bungalows
  • Tel: +66 (0)85 889 7972
