Viva Da Renato (Ristorante – Pizzeria – Bar) is the doyen of Italian eateries in Krabi as it has been open since 1999. Italian owner Renato is an extremely affable character and runs a tight, professional, yet friendly ship. Located on Pruksa Utit Road, opposite Soi Maharaj 4, Viva is a large opened-front venue sporting the Italian tricolour.
With homemade pastas and daily fresh-baked bread, 100% organic olive oil, and an exclusive Italian wine list, plenty of space in a central location, Viva is a winner; and its longevity in downtown Krabi proves the point.

Set on the ground floor of a typical Krabi Town building (Krabi Town’s architecture has something of the ‘50s and ‘60s European touch: three or four-storey concrete buildings with little if no ornamentation), Viva’s façade has several outside tables. Inside, the décor is well thought out with wooden tables and beams, warm beige-coloured walls and framed photos of the restaurant’s specialties.
Viva is an unpretentious and casual venue at which punters can relax and Renato, the owner, passes from table to table to check that everything’s alright in a friendly and unobtrusive way.
Viva Da Renato’s menu is 90% made up of transalpine favourites (it also features beef burgers at 180 baht and bacon-cheese burgers at 220 baht, both served with French fries). Using the freshest ingredients available and a typical Italian savoir-fair, Renato and its team prepare all the classic roman dishes in style: bianca neve bruschetta (garlic bread and mozzarella at 100 baht), pasta (homemade spaghetti or penne) carbonara at 180 baht, tagliatelle dello chef (beef sauce with fresh cream, mushroom and parmesan) at 220 baht, calamari fritti (deep-fried squid with side dish) at 260 baht, a list of 30 pizzas (from margherita at 180 baht to parma at 300 baht) are just a few of the available dishes.
The drinks list features all the regular beverages from soft drinks (25/40 baht) to fruit shakes (65 baht) to lassies (70 baht) to bottled beers (Chang at 65 baht, Heineken at 90 baht), Italian house wine at 140 baht per glass. Please also note that Viva has an extensive wine list available on request. Summing up, Viva is a friendly little part of Italy situated in the heart of Krabi Province’s capital city, and if you want to sample Italian food for a change you won’t be disappointed here.
