Diver’s Inn Steakhouse is one of the most popular restaurants in Ao Nang. Opened in August 2000 by Jürgen Weber and Jeab Saenubon, it was the first German restaurant in Ao Nang, a simple and small place with only 10 tables and four staffs. Through the years, the quality of its food and service made it gain in popularity, and it hosts nowadays 22 tables and nine staffs.
The restaurant’s Chef Jakkird ‘Eak’ Somchit has been trained in many hotels’ kitchens before to join Diver’s Inn Steakhouse, and he can cook in style mostly anything, whether be Thai or international dishes. The restaurant’s wine-list is also reputed and features a great selection of new and old world labels.
Located on Ao Nang’s southern road to Krabi Town some 500m from the beach, Diver’s Inn Steakhouse has a neat and clean rustic look with its white walls ornamented with stucco stones, its wooden beams, and its wood tables and brown durable ersatz water hyacinth chairs. The white and red table clothes add a classy touch to the restaurant, and the few tables set outside on the pavement are slightly hidden behind tropical plant pots in a way to give some intimacy to the diners from passers-by.
The atmosphere of the place is relaxed, and the staff assures an excellent service; the manager is present most of the time and is always disposable for a chat or to make some recommendation or suggestion about the food and wine.
Diver’s Inn Steakhouse’s 44-page menu is in four languages and contains a lot of illustrations, so there’s a good chance that even the pickiest of customers will find something to suit their taste on it. All beef steaks are top quality and come from Australia (Australian Angus 120 days grain fed); they are served with a choice of sauces (garlic butter, pepper cream, mushroom cream, Béarnaise), with a choice of side-dish (French-fries, fried potatoes, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, potato wedges, noodles) and includes a salad buffet for 750 baht (200gr steak – 1,050 baht for a 300gr steak).
Besides the steaks, the restaurant has a great choice of Thai and European favourites such as Schnitzel with mushroom sauce (320 baht), Goulash soup (140 baht), spaghetti Bolognese (180 baht), tom yam with shrimps (180 baht), pad tai with chicken (125 baht), duck breast with orange sauce (495 baht) just to name a few. Please note that a kid’s menu is also available.
The drink-list features all the usual suspects with some original products for the region like German wheat beer (Franziskaner and Weihenstephaner), original Hartwall Gin Longdrink from Finland and Stassen Belgium cider. Two different cocktails are promoted every month (in February 2014 they are Frozen Mojito with 3cl Vodka at 120 baht, and banana or strawberry Daiquiri at 150 baht), and a good choice of wines is available to suit your dish the best (some specific wines are recommended directly on the menu next to the dishes presented).
