Bai Toey Seafood Restaurant in Krabi Town

Krabi Town Restaurants & Dining

Bai Toey Seafood is a highly recommended restaurant in Krabi Town. Set on the banks of Krabi River in a tranquil corner between Chao Fah Pier and Thara Park, Bai Toey Seafood is a neat blue and white wooden restaurant overlooking the river. The place is unpretentious and has a laid-back atmosphere.

The food served here is 100% Thai with an emphasis on sea products, freshly caught and directly delivered to the restaurant by fishermen from the river. Bai Toey opened in 1988 and its longevity proves again that quality and simplicity are often rewarded with success.

The first feeling when one comes to Bai Toey for the first time is that of tranquility and the charming setting of the place; the restaurant is only a few hundred metres from downtown Krabi but the southern part of the road leading to Thara Park along the river is a relaxing spot. Bai Toey is mostly made up of a simple roof built around two large mango and tamarind trees; their trunks are inside the dining room and next to the kitchen.

Sea breezes bring fresh air to the restaurant which is in fact a rather large (approximately 150sqm) partially covered terrace. Its front part is completely open air and enjoys panoramic views over Krabi River and its man-made promenade. The restaurant features simple yet neat wooden (inside) and plastic (outside) furnishings while a children’s corner is where kids enjoy themselves with toys, blackboard, paper sheets, and crayons.

Bai Toey’s menu counts all in all 18 pages with the first four showing the most popular dishes illustrated with pictures. Some of these recommended dishes are classics for someone who knows a little about Thai cuisine – phad thai with shrimps (fried noodles with shrimps at75 baht) or som tam ma-muang with crab (papaya salad with crab at 80 baht) – but a good range of exotic and unusual dishes are also available for the more curious gourmets: horseshoe crab spawn salad at 295 baht, algae plumes salad at 140 baht, or fried frog (straight from the river to your plate) with curry at 170 baht.

The beverage list hosts all the usual suspects in matter of soft drinks (25 baht per can), beer (small bottle of Chang at 50 baht, small bottle of Heineken at 75 baht), and spirits (100 Pipers 70cl bottle at 450 baht). Summing up, Bai Toey is an excellent venue to get a glimpse of genuine South Thailand and sample some of the best products it has to offer at affordable rates in a cool atmosphere.
