Soi Bamboo in Krabi
Ao Nang Nightlife Scene's Hot Spots0
SOI BAMBOO IS NOW PERMANENTLY CLOSED
Soi Bamboo is located off Krabi Town Road in the southern part of Ao Nang some 300m from the sea. Named after the principal material used for the construction and furnishing of the venues it hosts, Soi Bamboo also includes four Thai seafood restaurants located on the main road. Its entrance is flanked by the lively Coconut Bar on its right, and by the tiny Eagle Bar on its left.
Soi Bamboo is not paved, its entrance marks like a border between the modern town that Ao Nang has become and the genuine rural South Thailand that it used to be. The Soi is about 100m long and features six bamboo-and- thatch bars and restaurants; nature still rules at the end of the Soi (at least until further development) and the huge cliff bordering Ao Nang’s southern end is only 500m away after the last bar, and offers great photo opportunities at the end of afternoon.Read More

As stated, Soi Bamboo starts on the main road to Krabi Town between Soi RCA Entertainment and Diver’s Inn Steakhouse. Four genuine Thai seafood restaurants built in a blending of modern (cement) and traditional materials (wood, bamboo and thatch) offer customers local food with the fresh catch of the day at affordable prices.
Dean’s Restaurant (the most contemporary of the lot), Aree Baba (which serves also Issan – northern Thai –food), Bamboo Restaurant (BBQ and European food also available), and Luck Yim Restaurant have everything to satisfy curious dinners who would like to discover Thai cuisine in an unpretentious atmosphere and décor.
Soi Bamboo hosts eight venues including Coconut Bar (which features a good live band every night) and the Eagle Bar which flank its entrance: Chili Bar 1 and 2, Ting Tong Bar, AS Bar, Banana Bar, and Mr. Long Bar & Restaurant. Apart from the latter, all of them are mainly just countryside-style beer bars with the usual charming hostesses, and bar games (Connect Four, dice games, and pool table).
Mr. Long Bar and Restaurant is the most interesting venue in the street for some good reasons: lueng Long (uncle Long) was the first person to establish a bar/restaurant in the soi in 2008; his venue is the largest in the soi and hosts a tattoo studio (using bamboo or electronic machine according to the design and the customer’s choice); and live music is played every night by a talented Thai guitarist/singer. The restaurant’s menu features all the usual Thai and international suspects, and prices are affordable (fried rice with chicken 90 baht, Thai beer in small bottles at 80 baht).
Summing up, Soi Bamboo is an interesting place that gives a taste of the bucolic atmosphere of genuine South Thailand, a perfect environment to relax and chill out with friends over a refreshing local beer.
