Ao Nang Center Point has been the heart of nightlife entertainment since 1999 in the most popular resort town in Krabi Province. Starting off as a small venue with just a few bars, it underwent a big renovation in 2010 and was turned into a modern three-storey entertainment complex featuring a great choice of dining, shopping and entertainment options.
Located on Ao Nang Beach Road, it is easy to spot its two entrances well-indicated by large and well-lit advertisements illustrated with a masked ladyboy photo stating: Ao Nang Center Point Arena. The small sois leading into the complex host shops selling the usual nick-knacks and souvenirs, from Thai signature handicrafts to inexpensive clothes and bags. If you come at the right time (before and between Blue Dragon Cabaret shows) you may have some photo opportunities as the transgender and transvestite performers try to bring in more customers by parading on the beach road.
Ao Nang Center Point is the equivalent on a smaller scale of places such as Bangla Road in Phuket, or Soi Cowboy in Bangkok: places at which punters can either quench their thirst as well as finding some intimate company. The ground floor is a rather large open-air plaza surrounded by restaurants and bars. As for food, there is a cosmopolitan choice between Tex-Mex at Long Horn Saloon, Middle-Eastern at Cairo Nights (which is also a shisha bar), Turkish at a Kebab House, Thai & western at In Bar & Restaurant, or English at Fish & Chips.
Smile Bar, Kang Corner, and Chang Bar are the other watering holes available on the ground floor on which a tailor is also installed, next to the souvenir and gift stalls. A tattoo studio – Cool Point Tattoo Club – is also located near to Kang Corner.
Ao Center Point’s building looks at the same time modern with its brushed steel escalators and bright lighting, and slightly seedy – like the Blade Runner movie set. The second and third floors host some venues forbidden to underage punters – they are Go-Go bars where sparsely-dressed ladies (or wannabe ladies) pole dance sensually in a soupy atmosphere: Sabina, Bar Bazaar, The Web Cocktail Bar (and karaoke) and The Airport Bar are their names.
Besides, bars such as Rocky Bar (with a terrace and live music), KR Bar & Pub (with terrace) and Crystal Club (live DJ and band) offer a less naughty style of nightlife entertainment (even though some good ‘company’ can be found here as well).
Ao Nang Center Point is also home to the Blue Dragon Cabaret, a ladyboy cabaret show that usually has three shows per night during high season (20:00, 21:30, and 23:00). Here you can enjoy a variety of dances, lip-syncing and funny turns with colourful and sparking costumes (and of course with lots of sequins and feathers). Located on the top floor of the complex, Blue Dragon Cabaret Show can suit people of all ages and is a must-see in Thailand.
